Episode 8 Circus Elephant Freed

Episode 8 Circus Elephant Freed

Welcome to the eighth episode of Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals.

On my first podcast, Jay Wont darts podcast, I covered the story of Jumbo, a circus elephant in New Zealand. I absolutely hate the name "Jumbo", I prefer to call her "Mrs Elephant", the idea of naming an elephant "jumbo", after the famous circus elephant, really bothers me. I met Mrs Elephant, and she is definitely more than just a stereotypical item of a circus's property. For one thing, shes now free from the circus!

Letter in newspaper

I've been known to write into The Southland Times newspaper from time to time,
and got a response back from someone (presumably joking) that they tried a
"no-meat diet of beans, greens and onions", and have had nothing but trouble
from it!

heres the full letter,

"We'll meat again
Since Mr Wyatt's suggestion (November 4) I have tried a no-meat diet of beans,
greens and onions but sad to say after the increased emissions I now have no
friends, am sleeping in the garage, the cat clawed the sofa to pieces, the dog
bit my leg and the pigs thought I was talking to them.

It's now back to a healthy balanced diet of meat and vegetables.

(Did you know that pigs, like most other animals and birds, also eat meat in
their natural environment?)
Neville Stronach, Te Anau"

Newspaper Website

I've sent this reply in, let me know what you think :)

"(In reply to Neville Stronach, Te Anau's letter)

Hi Neville,

If you did indeed try living on a diet of three things, "beans,
greens and onions", no wonder you ran into difficulty :) Variety is
the spice of life!

If you're ever in Invercargill, I'd love to prepare a Vegan Culinary
Tour de Force for you, err, thank you for warning me in advance of
your digestive difficulties :) I've never ran into any of the problems
you mentioned and its been years since I've eaten meat. Perhaps you
just hit a bad batch of "beans, greens and onions"?

Humans can thrive on a Vegan diet, I'm trying to arrange an interview
time with Auckland vegan Dusan Dudas, a very successful bodybuilder,
he runs http://www.healthybody-building.com/ , it would be great to
have him on my podcast "Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals".

(while we are playing "Animal Trivia", there are actually more
herbivorous animals than carnivores, and many are spectacular! From
the cutest Rabbits and Lambs, the tall Giraffe, the strong Elephant,
or our second closest relative, the Gorilla. Three of the "Big Five"
most dangerous African animals are herbivores.)

Best wishes,

Jordan Wyatt

Episode 6 Live Export

Episode 6 Live Export

Hello and welcome to episode 6 of Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals. Just before the intro, I played the first "bumper" I've received, from Sam Tucker. I've asked other vegans, from around the world to send me a recording as they mention who they are, where they can be found, and "youre listening to coexisting with nonhuman animals", as if my podcast were on tv. If you would like to make a bumper for me to play before each episode, you can go to my blog, coexisting with nonhuman animals.blogspot.com and see the post about Bumpers there. I'd like them all to follow the same format and to be about 15 seconds or less.

Anyone want to record a "bumper"?

Hello :)

I'd like to make some "bumpers", short intro ads for my podcast, featuring Vegans from around the world!
Just before each episode of my podcast Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals starts, I'd like to play a bumper. My blog can be found here
http://coexistingwithnonhumananimals.blogspot.com/ The first bumper, by (Sam Tucker ) can be heard on episode 6, Live Export.

Any Vegans worldwide who can record their voice are welcome to send me their version! My idea is just to make my podcast more interesting, with many different voices over time, and to help promote other Vegan websites/podcasts etc. Would you like to be included?

I'd really like it to stick to the same format each time, for consistency.

*An introduction to who you are
*Where you can be found online
*and a mention of my podcast at the end, "you're listening to Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals"

My example,

"Hello, Im Jordan Wyatt, an abolitionist Vegan from Invercargill, New Zealand. You can find me at coexisting with nonhuman animals . blogspot.com. You're listening to Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals!"

If possible, could you please stick closely to my above example? I'd like all the bumpers to be short, 15 seconds or so, but if want to be a bit longer, thats fine :)

I'd use a unique bumper at the start of each episode for as long as I could, perhaps cycling back through them again. If I get enough submissions, maybe each episode could have a unique bumper though!

If you could record yourself on your computer, and email me an mp3/aac/wave file to play, that would be great!

Thank you very much for your time :)

Episode 5 NZ Pork Scandal Followup

Episode 5 NZ Pork Scandal Followup

Welcome to episode 5 of Coexisting With Nonhuman Animals.

Before I'd begin, Id like to mention that New Zealand once again has a Vegan society! Very cool, you can find the New Zealand Vegan Society at http://www.vegansociety.co.nz/

For this episode I'd like to follow up on what I call the "NZ Pork Scandal", mainstream coverage of how pigs are treated New Zealand. I covered the initial story 6 months ago, on my other podcast, I've included a link to that episode on this podcasts blog, at coexisting with nonhuman animals.blogspot.com.
